TF AF Summary/History

At the 33rd Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, held in July 2010 in Geneva, Switzerland it was agreed to establish an ad hoc Codex Intergovernmental Task Force on Animal Feeding.

The 6th Session of the TF AF which have been the first one chaired by Switzerland, aimed to establish guidelines to apply the risk assessment methodologies of the Codex Alimentarius for animal feed and feed additives, to be used as international standards. It also aimed to develop a prioritized list of hazards in feed ingredients and feed additives. Both outputs are intended for governmental use.

The 6th session of the ad hoc Intergovernmental Codex Task Force on Animal Feeding reached the following conclusions:

1) the Task Force agreed to forward the proposed draft "Guidelines on application of risk assessment for feed" to the Commission for adoption at Step 5 and

2) the Task Force agreed that the document on prioritised list of hazards in feed would only focus on the criteria for prioritization of hazards in feed and on guidance on how governments could use these criteria. The Task Force agreed to return the renamed proposed draft "Guidance for use by governments in prioritizing their national feed hazards" to Step 2 for redrafting by an electronic working group, for circulation for comments at Step 3 and further consideration at its next session.
